How To Make Hanging Flower Baskets
To make a hanging flower basket seems a bit overwhelming to some, but this can be a very relaxing hobby. When the baskets are finished you will be proud to display your work of art for everyone to see. You will probably want to begin by choosing just the right basket, unless of course you have already have chosen the flowers.
Do you want a small or large arrangement? This is a question that you will have to answer for yourself. Make sure that you don’t choose a basket that is to heavy, you don’t want your wonderful display to crash to the ground in a wind storm, or be to heavy to move by yourself after the flowers are planted. You will want the basket to last for the entire season, so make sure that it is weather resistant. Now that you have picked out just the right basket it is time to choose the flowers to fill it with.
If you have the perfect place to hang your basket, whether it be in full sun light or shade you need to find flowers that will flourish in the place that you have chosen. Some flowers that do well in the full sun are petunias, zennias, and lantana, you can add any that you like. Good choices for the shade include impatients and green foliage. Again, you may try any that you like.
While deciding on the type of flowers that you want to plant, get some high quality potting mix. Either store brand or homemade, whatever you choose will be fine. You will also need some liquid fertilizer to help the flowers grow. You can also invest in some of those water retaining pellets to add if your plants are in the sun most of the day. This will help with keeping the soil moist. Don’t forget to set up a watering system that is easy for you to handle, your gorgeous flowers won’t last long without a cool drink.
After you have done all of these things it is finally time to plant. Add the potting soil to your basket along with the fertilizer, according to the directions. Dig a small hole and place the flower so that the roots are all covered. Firmly push the soil around the plant, but be careful not to damage the root system. Repeat these steps until all your flowers are planted firmly. Water your baskets daily and watch your garden grow.
With a lot of loving care you can have a hanging basket garden that all your neighbors will be envious of. This project may take a bit of time and patience, but is definitely worth it. You will be proud to display your work of art for all the world to see.
